There has always been more to Cognac than just the spirit itself. With centuries of tradition, its value lies as much in heritage and process as in taste — and its presentation reflects that. And labels have a big role to play in telling their stories. Through historical references and carefully considered details, they convey quality, age and prestige. When it comes to cognac brands, packaging has never been an afterthought, but has always been considered part of the consumer experience.
That certainly holds true for “La Légende de Renorville,” a new trilogy of VSOP, XO and XXO cognacs from Raynaud. Designed by Compair Design Studio, the range features a packaging concept that pairs structural precision with symbolic storytelling — expressed through a complex label that wraps fully around the bottle. The shape was engineered with a specific “parchment” vector cut to maintain smooth, even tension across the glass, resulting in a clean 360° read without puckering or lifting.
The label pays tribute to La Chapelle de la Renorville, the heart of the Raynaud estate. Its form and finish are drawn from architectural and historical motifs, including symbols and detailing. Every visual element — from the curvature of the label to the shading and micro-engraved patterns — was composed to reflect this exact legacy.
The design team opted for our Fasson® Cotton Extra White material to execute this vision. Chosen for its textile-like surface and ability to support delicate finishes, the material ensures strong ink absorption and excellent relief reproduction — two key requirements for this label’s creation. It serves as the foundation for a gradient that visually narrates the transformation of white eau-de-vie into aged cognac, created using a four-colour process with carefully controlled ink densities.
A range of embellishments was also applied to take the design to the next level. These include Kurz Luxor’s 418 hot foil for a patinated gold effect that adheres cleanly to the textured surface, and deep embossing on the Templar icon, positioned to maximize curvature and create contrast under grazing light. The parchment-style die cut completes the story, adding a final symbolic gesture to the product.
Printing of the label was managed by Nacara Impression, whose role was key in maintaining technical alignment between materials, shape and finishes. The packaging is completed with a Saverglass bottle and Bouchages Delage closure, bringing consistency across every touchpoint of the final presentation.
Ultimately, “La Légende de Renorville” doesn’t aim to reinterpret cognac’s heritage — it presents it through craft, composition and control. Every element is there for a reason, designed to express the identity of the spirit not just through words or symbols, but through shape, light, texture and material.
