Sustainable Premium Labeling: Avery Dennison at Paris Packaging Week 2023

This year, we’re showcasing some of our leading sustainable premium labeling materials and innovations in connected packaging at Paris Packaging Week 2023. Every year, more than 10,000 visitors from over 80 countries attend, exploring the latest advancements in packaging across 1,600 brands in the cosmetics, fragrances, personal care, and premium beverage industries. We will welcome these brands on the 25th and 26th of January and invite them to explore our booth, consisting of two main pillars.

The growing problem of overpopulation inspired one of the prototypes in our Elements envelope — USHA — a Gin concept aimed to raise awareness of this pressing issue. Hindu mythology refers to Usha as the goddess of dawn and rebirth, representing life. She is credited with letting the earth rise against darkness every morning, initiating all human activities, and counting the time left for all living creatures.

Inspired by this global concern, GALATEA, our Greek wine concept, is designed to highlight the issue of water scarcity. According to Greek mythology, Galatea was one of the fifty Nereids and the goddess of calm seas. Thus, the ideal source of inspiration when it comes to increasing awareness of the shortage of water.

ELEMENTS - NEFERTUM

This growing crisis requiring public attention inspired one of the prototypes in our Elements envelope — NEFERTUM — our Egyptian perfume concept designed to raise awareness about food scarcity. According to mythology, Nefertum is the god of flowers and plants, representing the harvesting of crops. In many depictions of him, he has a lotus flower on his head, which is associated with creation and rebirth in ancient Egypt due to the way the flower closes at night and opens again in the morning.

Inspired by this widespread concern, STRIBOG, our caviar concept, is designed to highlight the issue of pollution. Taking its name from the Slavic god of wind and air, the project demonstrates how a luxury product can tell a crucial environmental story through beautiful label design.

Inspired by concerns over energy, AMATERASU, our Japanese beer concept, is built to shed light on the issue of resource depletion. In honor of the Japanese goddess of the sun, Amaterasu, who is amongst the highest divinities of Shintoism, the prototype revolves around the sun—a symbol for the original source of most of the energy.

In light of this ongoing crisis, we created one of the prototypes in our Elements envelope—PELE—our Hawaiian body cream concept designed to bring attention to global warming. According to mythology, Pele is the goddess of fire. Due to the aggressive nature of global warming, she was chosen as the main symbol for this concept, as heat and fire often cause droughts and forest fires today—examples of global warming's effects.
