Led by Farming Artist and fourth generation Distiller and Cellar Master Francois Méry, Méry Melrose is a family-owned cognac house. The story of L’Empreinte tells of the work of mankind and what we leave behind through the ages.
“The client desired the label to reflect the idea of prehistory because his vineyard is located on a site where prehistoric tools were excavated. In the design, we explored the comparison between the traces left behind by workers and the aging of the Cognac through the generations,” says Graphic Illustrator Virginie Drahonnet of design agency Citrus Aurantium.
To tell the story of the Cognac L’Empreinte Méry Melrose, Virginie chose Fasson Cotton White.
“The Fasson Cotton White has an authentic grain and a beautiful printing surface, which welcomes the earthy hues and gilding we needed. We used a digital HP printing technique, which allows a good distribution of color. Hence, for the whole, we used one stamping and debossing” says printer Marie Hardel of Nacara Impressions.
Of the success of the overall design, François and Janis Méry of Méry Melrose said, “The project was first featured on Facebook and received a warm response. Wine merchants are quite satisfied with the originality of the label, and are happy to share their feelings with consumers.”
